We are a fibre manufacturing company based in Cullompton, Devon, proudly distributing fibres to industries worldwide. Our workforce strives to produce high-quality fibres and manage to achieve this in an eco-friendly way. We understand the impact manufacturing companies have on the environment. Therefore, we have taken a stand to ensure that we are doing our part.
Sustainable Manufacturing
A growing number of businesses are working toward ensuring sustainability is a key objective in strategies and operations. Sustainability increases growth and competitiveness around the world. ‘Green companies’ used to be niche, but now many businesses are adopting this term.
At Goonvean Fibres, we are proud to say we are sustainable manufacturers of precision cut fibres and powders. Our products are created through economically sound processes so that we can minimise any negative environmental impacts.
Our headquarters is BREAAM rated as ‘very good’. This demonstrates that our facilities were built with sustainability in mind. We are constantly working towards increasing our rating further.
By pursuing sustainability at our company, we are reducing costs and the amount of waste we produce. Our status also ensures we reach new customers, building our public trust. Being a sustainable company means that we increase our competitive advantage and guarantee long term viability and success. You can discover more about our company here.
Raising the Bar Even Further
Our fibre manufacturing company is currently working towards acquiring an ISO 14001 accreditation, which we should have by the middle of 2022. The accreditation is an international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). This accreditation will help us focus on reducing our impact on the environment and ensure legal compliance.
We already operate on a reduced waste basis. Our facility is highly efficient and runs on renewable energy that doesn’t produce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels. On the roof of our factory, we have solar PV (photovoltaic) panels that use sunlight to source clean and renewable energy. The PV panels generate the electricity that supplies the entire factory, with enough energy leftover to supply the back of the grid. This process also helps reduce pollution.
So, by utilising renewable energy to generate our electricity, we are reducing our impacts on the environment.
Zero-to-landfill
We recently started a programme where we recycle all the packaging consumed in our processes. Our factory works hard to reduce waste, and we are aiming to become a zero-to-landfill company. Zero-to-landfill means operating in a way that reduces the amount of waste that ends up in a landfill. Whilst we aim that none of our waste reaches landfills at all, certain types, unfortunately, cannot be processed. We hope to achieve at least a 99% resource recovery rate.
