The team at Goonvean Fibres are delighted to announce we’ve been awarded an ISO 14001:2015 certification, providing further value for the environment and our organisation. Our team has always been committed to a greener and more sustainable future, and we believe strongly in giving something back. We’re proud to say we are green and sustainable manufacturers, as our industry can often be perceived as the opposite.
Manufacturing is essential for the economy but admittedly has been responsible for high energy consumption and carbon emissions. But we’ve been on a mission to change that for a while, implementing zero-to-landfill, recycling systems, and solar PV panels to generate our electric, and economically sound product manufacturing, among many other things.
We regularly review our energy consumption and educate our employees and customers on the benefits of green manufacturing. Not only that, but we are constantly coming up with new initiatives for eco-friendly practices to make positive changes.
This new certification makes us feel proud to be recognised for our commitment to a greener future and the hard work we’ve put into it. ISO 14001:2015 is an agreed international standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system and helps companies like us improve environmental performance by using more efficient resources and reducing waste.
An environmental management system (EMS) is comprised of policies, plans, practices, processes, and records that define how a company should interact with the environment. We’ll be tailoring the system to our legal requirements and environmental interactions so that we can continue to enact positive change. The recognition that comes with this award alone shows that Goonvean Fibres care enough to reduce our environmental footprint, helping us build better and stronger relationships with our customers, the public and our company’s community.
ISO 14001 will help us prevent pollution, advance legal compliance, and make continuous improvements to environmental performance. We can use accurate data to make evidence-based decisions, create a culture of continuous improvement, and improve credibility.
Seen as consumers now seek products with a green and sustainable chain of development, and are on the hunt for sustainable products and services, this certification also gives Goonvean Fibres a competitive advantage compared to the manufacturing companies that are yet to begin their steps toward a greener future. At Goonvean Fibres, we are proud sustainable manufacturers of precision-cut fibres and powders. Our headquarters is BREAAM rated ‘very good’, which demonstrates that our facilities were built with sustainability in mind so that we could guarantee long-term viability and success. We are constantly working towards increasing our BREAAM rating further, and the ISO certification will help us do that.
