One of the fastest growing & renewable plants

Hemp was first used to make fibres over 50,000 years ago and is one of the fastest growing, most renewable plants in the world. As one of the oldest domesticated crops used to make paper, textiles, cordage, and more, Hemp is an eco-friendly and natural fibre with many strong characteristics.

The material derives from cannabis plants and contains less than 0.3 per cent of the cannabinoid molecule tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), therefore, has no psychoactive effects.

Hemp fibres are multicellular because they come from plant stems. The plant grows at an exponential rate, yielding more fibre than cotton and flax. That’s why hemp is used for a variety of applications, commercially and industrially. Plant fibre is commonly used to create construction materials due to its breathable characteristics, ideal for concrete and insulation applications.

Standard Fibre Details

Our quality hemp fibres are suitable for a wide range of applications. They possess extremely high tensile strength and resilience, tear resistance, and minimal environmental impact. We supply short-cut hemp fibres that are commonly used in commercial and industrial applications and milled hemp fibres (flock) that are ground to strengthen products, such as paper.

Technical Fibre Details

Hemp fibres are a natural plant fibre, also known as a bast fibre, meaning it derives from the stem of a plant, and are the strongest bast natural fibres in the family. The chemical composition of hemp varies, as the distribution of chemical constituents varies between the outer bast and the woody core of the original plant.

Hemp plants typically contain a large percentage of cellulose, and a smaller percentage of hemicellulose, lignin, pectin, fat, and wax. The cellulose plays a crucial role in determining the fibre’s absorptivity, dyeability, ability to be chemically modified and fibre processing.

We are happy to help you incorporate our fibres into your products, as well as discuss any bespoke requirements.
