COTTON
FIBRE
An Eco-Friendly Alternative to Synthetic Materials
Cotton fibres are a natural, eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials, separated from the seed’s pods using a specialist cotton gin machine. Cotton fibres are naturally hollow, absorbent, and breathable and can hold water up to 24-27 times its own weight, making them ideal for manufacturing all kinds of textiles.
The natural fibres and flocks are also used to reinforce friction products, as a filler in adhesives, for epoxy resin systems, and as an additive for coatings and sealants. Cotton is also excellent for naturally regulating moisture due to capillary action.
Companies worldwide are growing increasingly concerned over the environmental impact of their manufacturing materials. Cotton is an acceptable and environmentally friendly alternative that has many beneficial characteristics.
Quality matters, so at Goonvean Fibres, we’ve specifically designed affordable Milled Cotton Powders, White Cotton fibres, Cosmetic Grade Cotton, and Unbleached Cotton fibres to tailor to a wide range of industry requirements, as well as specific needs. We manufacture very small cuts to allow for even dispersion.
Available in a range of sizes.
Standard Fibre Details
Our quality cotton fibres are extremely soft yet strong. They can withhold up to 27x their water weight, drawing in water by capillary action so that the moisture can spread evenly throughout the system. They are also high in lustre, have a neutral PH, good dye affinity, dimensional stability, and are hypoallergenic.
Technical Fibre Details
Cotton fibres are 95 per cent cellulose, and the remaining 5 per cent of non-cellulosic compounds are removed through chemical processing. Cellulose is a macromolecule, a polymer made up of a long chain of glucose molecules that differs from wood cellulose due to a greater degree of crystallinity and polymerization.
Cotton fibres are often blended with other fibres to achieve the best properties from each fibre, including nylon, linen, wool, and polyester.
