Elastomers
Goonvean Fibres produces elastomer fibres including precision short cut fibres and fibre flocks.
A variety of natural and synthetic fibres such as cotton, viscose rayon, nylon, polyester, meta-aramids & para-aramids are used.
Elastomer fibres are used to provide a flexible reinforcement for a range of rubber compounds used in the manufacture of transmission belts, seals, hoses, and anti-vibration mountings. Short cut fibres and flocks also improve the green strength of unvulcanised rubber and the hardness of vulcanised rubber.
Polyester, cotton, and nylon flocks are often used as a flexible, easily dispersed, and friction resistant reinforcement, but other materials such as meta-aramid, such as Nomex© & para-aramids, such as Kevlar© flocks can be substituted when extreme temperatures and excessive wear resistance are key.
Our products are flexible and can be customised to fit your needs. They are compatible with a range of rubber processing techniques, mills, calendars, and extruders, and fibre reinforced rubbers can be injection, transfer, or compression moulded.
We specialise in the sourcing and processing of natural and synthetic elastomer fibres for a wide range of industries globally, which means that we have a lot of experience and expertise.
In a highly regulated industry such as oil and gas, our clients can rest assured that they are purchasing high quality, sustainably produced materials.

Drive belts
Milled flocks offer unbeatable strength and reinforcement to elastomer products, particularly drive belts, which require high levels of tear resistance without any loss of performance. This can help prevent a minor defect turning into a full blown belt failure, which can be very expensive in the long run.
From 250 microns up to 12000 microns, our range of milled flocks are available for use within a variety of drive belts such as High Torque, Wedged, Cogged Raw Edge, Timing, and V belts.
Our fibres and flocks include:
Short cut aramid fibres and flocks are widely used as reinforcement and process aids in friction products where high temperature and wear resistance are important. Aramid fibres are also used by gasket and seal manufacturers for use in aggressive environments.
Para-Aramids (such as Kevlar©) are for extremely harsh conditions, whereas Meta-Aramids (such as Nomex©) is used as a high performance material in slightly less harsh environments.
Natural fibres and fibre flocks such as cotton, hemp, and other cellulose-based fibres are used to reinforce products in a growing number of applications. Many global companies who find precision cut lengths less critical are moving to the use of an environmentally acceptable alternative to oil based synthetic flocks.
Polyethylene flock is used in a variety of applications, including filtration, sealants, paints, and rubber compounds.
Polyester flocks are used to reinforce rubber formulations and to provide compressive strength, bending stiffness, resistance to deformation, and tear resistance.
Acrylic fibre flock is a polyacrylonitrile fibre used as an alternative to asbestos for the manufacture of drive belts. It also has high fire resistant properties.
Rubber hoses
Our flocks are used in the manufacture of a wide range of hoses because they help increase the hose’s resistance to high pressure and high temperatures. Therefore, the longevity and the performance of the hose is extended.
Our fibres include:
Aramid fibres such as meta-aramid, such as Nomex© & para-aramids, such as Kevlar© give rubber hoses unbeatable tensile strength, durability, and temperature resistance.
More and more common with eco-conscious global companies, cotton, hemp and other cellulose-based fibres are an excellent alternative to oil based synthetic flocks.
Polyethylene flock improves the durability of rubber hoses.
Acrylic fibre flock is a polyacrylonitrile fibre used as an alternative to asbestos for the manufacture of brake pads, clutch plates, and hosing. It is also fire and heat resistant.
Rubber mountings
Our fibres and flocks are used to make rubber mountings more flexible, friction resistant, and vibration resilient. Common applications include those in engine mountings where vibration could reduce component life or result in catastrophic part failure.
Our fibres, flocks, and powders include:
Polyester flocks are used to reinforce rubber mountings and are great for improving strength, stiffness, and durability
Cotton fibres and flocks have similar hardening properties as other, oil-based fibres, but are more environmentally friendly.
Polyethylene fibres harden rubber mountings and make them more stable and vibration-resistant.
